MESSAGE FROM FIRE CHIEF IAN GOW

Your fire department is changing to meet the challenges of our growing area. Due to our dramatically increasing volume of requests for service we asked the public for increased funding at the June 2004 election. This request was granted and we have been able to hire the needed additional staff.

DISTRICT STAFFING

We now have one fire engine staffed 24 hours a day with a Captain and a Paramedic. We are one of the few fire departments in the County who provide life-saving paramedic services. We also staff a second engine from 8a.m. to 6 p.m. 7 days per week. We are also fortunate to have a very strong group of volunteers who also respond to emergency calls.

AUXILIARY

We have a group of Auxiliary members who support the firefighters in logistical needs during fires and emergencies. Many of them are also members of the Red Cross.

FIRE STATIONS

The fire department has 3 fire stations – in Applegate, Meadow Vista and Weimar. Currently our 24–hour engine is in Meadow Vista and the 10-hour engine is in Weimar. We are in the process of remodeling our Applegate station. Once this is done our 24-hour crew will move to Applegate for the night when we are down to one staffed engine.

As always our staffed engines provide the quickest possible response to your emergencies and are supplemented by our well-trained volunteers.

FIRE APPARATUS

We own all of our fire apparatus, which includes 3 fire engines, 1 wildfire engine, 2 water tankers and several support vehicles. We have been able to gradually modernize our fleet and pay for the modernization of the Applegate station from Fire Facility Fees. These fees are levied on all new construction within our district to mitigate the impact of the increasing demand on our emergency services, and can only by used for capital facility expenditures.

LONG RANGE PLANS

  • Replace the 50 year old Meadow Vista station
  • Improve staffing at Weimar to 24 hours per day

DISTRICT PERSONNEL

The men and women who work and volunteer for this organization are well trained, highly motivated and are among the best in the County. We are honored to be able to help protect you and your family and appreciate the support you all have given us.

PLEASE HELP US TO HELP YOU

  • Please have your home address clearly visible from the road.
Maintain a “Defensible Space” around your home and evacuation routes.
